SOUTH CENTRAL RAILWAY LAUNCHED SECOND LINE ALONG WITH ELECTRIFICATION BETWEEN BETHAMCHERLA — BUGGANIPALLY

South Central Railway is focusing on the ongoing Guntur-Guntakallu doubling project. Work is progressing rapidly in this project. The double line has been completed in various sections during the current financial year. Continuing the same trend, another 6.2 km. section between BethaMcherla-BugganIapally Cement Nagar has been completed and double line works have been completed along with electrification. This division falls under Kurnool and Nandyala districts of Andhra Pradesh. Currently, with the doubling of this section, there will be continuous double line facility along with electrification for 113 km between Guntakallu-BugganIpally.

The Guntur–Guntakallu section is a vital rail link connecting the city of Guntur in the state of Andhra Pradesh with the Rayalaseema region and beyond in the southern states.

This line connects remote areas of Guntur, Prakasam, Palnadu, Nandyala and Kurnool districts. To provide continuous transport and decongest this section, Guntur-Guntakallu Doubling and Electrification Project has been sanctioned for a distance of 401 kms. at an estimated cost of Rs.3887 crores in the year 2016-17.

So far 200 km between Nallapadu – Giddalur and 107 km between BethaMcherla – Guntakallu with doubling and electrification of a total of 307 km project has been completed and started.

Now with the completion of another 6 km between Bethamcherla – Bugganipally, the electrification of the second line along with the second line has been completed for a total of 313 km in various sections of Guntur-Guntakallu.

Mainly 200 kms. between Guntur-Giddalur and 113 kms between Bugganipally-Guntakallu trains will run continuously. Doubling these sections will reduce congestion in this critical section. Thus, there will be better flexibility in the management of trains in Guntur-Guntakallu section. The work on the remaining section of the project i.e. between Bugganipally and Giddalur is progressing at a fast pace. Completion of doubling and electrification of the entire project will not only decongest the section but also help increase the average speed of trains.
