Delhi: Many lawyers have expressed concern that attempts are being made to undermine the integrity of the judiciary in the country.  It is alleged that some selfish groups are implementing pressure tactics to influence court judgments especially in cases related to political leaders.

To this extent, more than 600 lawyers, including prominent lawyers Harish Salve and Pinky Anand, wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice DY Chandrachud.  It became a topic of discussion during the Lok Sabha elections.

Some groups with political agenda are trying to put pressure on the judiciary. They seek to influence the judicial process and tarnish the reputation of the court. For this they follow many ways. They are creating false stories about the key judgments of the courts to reduce public confidence in the courts. In the meantime, some lawyers defend political leaders during the day and influence the judges with the media at night, the lawyers expressed their concern.

“It is strange that some political leaders are accusing some of them of corruption and then defending them in the courts. If court decisions do not go in their favor, they immediately resort to public criticism. Attempts are being made to put pressure on judges by spreading falsehoods on social media. Such attempts to tarnish the reputation of the Court for personal or political reasons should not be allowed under any circumstances. Keeping silent on such matters is like giving more strength to those who want to do harm. Time to stand up for the courts. We request the Supreme Court to take strict action on this,” the lawyers asked in their letter.
