AMARAVATI: Special greetings to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on his 76th birthday today.

Born on April 20, 1950, he has built a long political career in Andhra Pradesh focusing on economic reforms and infrastructure. He is currently serving as the Chief Minister for a record fourth time since June 2024.

Early political career

Naidu entered politics in 1978 at the age of 28 as a Congress MLA from Chandragiri. At the age of 30, he became the youngest minister with portfolios like cinematography and minor irrigation. He joined the TDP, founded by his uncle N.T. Rama Rao, in 1983 and helped rebuild the party during times of crisis, serving as its general secretary.  Between 1989 and 1994, he rose to prominence as an MLA from Kuppam and as the TDP coordinator in the opposition.

Rise to power

In 1995, Naidu became the Chief Minister by ousting NTR in a party coup. After the TDP’s landslide victory in 1999, he served as the Chief Minister for two terms until 2004. He lost power in 2004 and 2009, but returned to power in 2014 as the first Chief Minister of post-bifurcation Andhra Pradesh. After a defeat in 2019 and an arrest in 2023 (acquitted in 2026), the TDP alliance’s victory in 2024 brought him back to power.

Current situation
As the TDP national president and the longest-serving Chief Minister of a Telugu state, Naidu is leading the NDA coalition government after the 2024 elections.  He is focusing on the revival of the state after the YSRCP rule.

Views on Andhra Pradesh’s development

Naidu aspires to transform Andhra Pradesh into a technology-driven “Sunrise State” with policies like Industrial Development 4.0, MSME parks, AI labs, drones, space, and semiconductor hubs to attract ₹30 lakh crore of investment and create 20 lakh jobs by 2029. He is prioritizing Amaravati as the sole capital (strengthened by the 2026 amendment bill), infrastructure like 20 airports/seaports, ease of doing business, and inclusive growth through welfare schemes like pensions and self-help groups (SHGs).

Although critics say he has focused too little on agriculture, he is promoting Vision 2029 for poverty alleviation, green cities, and global clusters for every district.

N. Chandrababu Naidu aspires to make Amaravati India’s first future global capital city. Spread over 217 square kilometers along the Krishna River, the city draws inspiration from the Singapore Master Plan to combine sustainability, innovation, and economic growth.

Core Master Plan

The plan divides Amaravati into nine sub-cities: government (assembly, secretariat), justice, finance, science, health, sports, electronics, media, and tourism. It prioritizes wide roads, flyovers, green spaces, environmental sustainability, and improved living standards.  India Today

Renewal and progress

Projects worth ₹37,702 crore, to be revived after 2024, are continuing with the foundation stone laying by Prime Minister Modi; monetisation will be possible through land acquisition from farmers without compensation. The Reorganisation Amendment Bill, 2026, will provide legal status and make development “invincible”.

Economic goals

Naidu aims to make Amaravati a growth engine, boosting jobs, tax revenue and investor confidence through modern technologies like AI and electronics hubs, with a view to making AP a $2.4 trillion economy by 2047.  Key buildings like the government complex are targeted to be completed by 2028, and institutions like BITS Pilani by 2026.

It’s True.
There is no doubt that if Chandrababu remains the Chief Minister permanently, Andhra Pradesh will develop in an all-round way in the future in an unexpected way. In all sectors, even the remotest areas of the state will be provided with complete basic facilities.
