AMARAVATI : They said that despite the supply of 10,345 kilolitres of petrol and 14,156 kilolitres of diesel to dealers on Sunday, panic buying by people led to huge rush at many outlets.

Officials said that under normal circumstances, the daily sales in the state averaged 6,330 kilolitres of petrol and 9,048 kilolitres of diesel. However, due to public concern over fuel shortage, fuel purchases have increased sharply. On today alone, petrol sales increased to 8489 kilolitres and diesel sales to 10556 kilolitres.

Officials explained that due to the sudden increase in sales, stocks are running out at many outlets quickly. Despite the increased supply, long queues are being seen at petrol pumps due to panic buying. They also informed the Chief Minister that the bulk purchases by the water transport sector in drums are creating additional pressure on supply.

Reacting to the current situation at petrol pumps, the Chief Minister directed the officials to implement an action plan to resolve the issue and submit a report to him by today evening.
