AMARAVATI; Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced that the NDA government at the Centre has allocated Rs. 10,134 crore specifically for Andhra Pradesh in the railway budget under the ‘Double Engine Sarkar’. Earlier, undivided Andhra Pradesh used to get only Rs. 886 crore, but today the state is witnessing unprecedented railway development, he said.
The Union Minister, who participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony of Google Data Centre in Visakhapatnam today, said that railway projects are worth Rs. 1.06 lakh crore are currently underway, connecting Andhra Pradesh with major economic corridors and strengthening logistics infrastructure.
He highlighted that 74 railway stations are being modernized in Andhra Pradesh under the country’s first mega project, Amrit Bharat/Nava Nirman Project, and 832 flyovers and underpasses have been completed. He said that 1,039 km of new railway lines are being constructed and Andhra Pradesh has achieved 100 percent railway electrification.
The Union Minister said that Andhra Pradesh is developing as a key railway hub with 16 Vande Bharat Train services and 22 Amrit Bharat Train services. He said that great care has been taken in the design and manufacturing standards of the new generation trains.
Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Centre has fulfilled one of the most important promises made at the time of bifurcation of the state, the establishment of the South Coast Railway Zone. He said that the South Coast Railway Zone will be officially notified on June 1, 2026. The Minister announced that the work on high-speed rail connectivity for Andhra Pradesh is progressing and it will soon become a reality.
The Amaravati to Hyderabad bullet train will cover the distance in 70 minutes and the Amaravati to Chennai bullet train in 112 minutes. He said that the existing double railway lines from Kolkata to Chennai along the East Coast Corridor will be upgraded to four-line connectivity.
This corridor will support container transport, freight trains and passenger connectivity through 500 new train services.
The Union Minister said that the NDA government is doing justice to the southern states in both development and welfare. He said that while the Centre is focusing on growth and infrastructure, the opposition parties are trying to politicize every issue.
He reiterated that the full support of the Central Government will continue to Andhra Pradesh for infrastructure, connectivity and economic growth.
