(Five-Star Rating News service by Google) AMARAVATI: All India Newspaper Employees Federation (AINEF) National Senior Vice President Chaladi Poornachandra Rao said in a statement today that the railway passes should be restored to the accredited journalists of the country.

After a long struggle, the journalists of the country were finally granted railway passes by the then Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, but the railways canceled that facility for them during the Covid-19 period and has not renewed it till now, he expressed regret that it is unfair to cancel the accommodation available to journalists who are fully dedicated to government programs and social programs day and night.

He opined that it is good that the Indian government is giving incentives worth thousands of crores to corporate companies, but providing railway passes to journalists in the country is not that expensive compared to their incentives.

The Railways has been providing passes to journalists at a 50 percent discount for many years, and it is unfair that the journalists are expecting a 100 percent discount, but the facility that has been in place for six years has been completely canceled and not restored, said Purnachandra Rao.

The Central Government should consider this issue as an important issue in the current budget session, consider journalists as a special category and immediately announce the renewal of passes for them before the end of the budget session of Parliament, demanded Purnachandra Rao, Senior Vice President of AINEF.

He also appealed to the Union Minister for National Highways and Highways to exempt the vehicles of journalists from toll-free.
