A total of 1.38 lakh hectares of crops have been damaged across the state, of which 46 thousand hectares have been damaged in Krishna district alone. They have come to a preliminary estimate that about 56 thousand farmers have suffered losses in this district. They assured that they will support every farmer who has suffered losses and not to be discouraged.
Pawan Kalyan, who visited Avanigadda constituency in Krishna district on Thursday, inspected the crops damaged by Cyclone Montha. He spoke to the farmers and understood their concerns. Later, after examining the photo exhibition set up by Krishna district officials on the damage caused by the cyclone in Avanigadda, he spoke to the media.
We were able to deal with Cyclone Montha effectively due to the advance preparations made by the government. We have reduced the severity of the damage with a proper plan. Due to the foresight of the Honorable Chief Minister Shri Chandrababu Naidu, who has a long experience of governance, we have taken adequate precautions.
Monitoring the situation 24 hours a day through video conferences and RTGS, we have alerted the entire machinery and the people down to the village level.
As part of the precautionary measures, we have shifted 16,000 people to rehabilitation centers and made arrangements so that they do not face any difficulties. It has come to my attention that tenant farmers have also suffered in this disaster.
I will take the matter of supporting them to the attention of the Honorable Chief Minister. Super chlorination and super sanitation have been started to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Post-cyclone relief measures have been started on a war footing.
It has been preliminary confirmed that approximately 274 km of roads within the Panchayat Raj department have been damaged beyond repair by the cyclone. We have instructed the officials to restore all the damaged roads on a permanent basis.
In addition to removing water stored in low-lying areas, we have initiated the process of super sanitation and super chlorination in villages to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. We have divided the sanitation staff into teams according to the districts and started measures to improve sanitation. While 1,583 villages have been severely affected, a total of 21,055 staff are being used for sanitation management. We are taking precautionary measures in places where there is a problem with the drinking water supply system.
We have decided to provide 25 kg of rice to those in the rehabilitation camps in the flood-affected areas and 50 kg of rice to fishermen and handloom workers who have lost their jobs.
The coalition government will also provide 1 kg of lentil, 1 liter of palm oil packet, 1 kg of onions, 1 kg of potatoes and 1 kg of sugar free of cost. We are giving Rs. 1,000 to each person in the camps before they go home. A maximum of Rs. 3 thousand will be paid to each family. We will seek central cooperation once the preliminary report on the damage caused by the cyclone is received.
We will take NABARD’s assistance to construct a new outfall sluice on the sea embankment in Kodur mandal. He said that Rs. 13.08 crore has been allocated for the construction of the Uttamonda-Gollamanda road, which was damaged by sea erosion in the Uttamonda islands, and the tender process has also been completed, and through this, the road problems of the people of five villages will be resolved.
