Kovil Venni is located in a village called Needamangalam near Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. This temple is located in a remote village called Ammapeta, 26 km from Thanjavur city in Tamil Nadu. Historically, this temple is called Thiruvenni.
In this temple, Lord Shiva in the form of a linga is worshipped as Venni Karumbeswarar and Goddess Parvati is worshipped as Soundara Nayagi. This is a Swayambhu temple. This Lord Shiva is seen covered with sugarcane bundles. It is said that once this place was covered with sugarcane (karumbu) and Venni (nandivardhanam tree) trees. That is why this Lord is called Venni Karumbeswarar.

It is a deep belief of the devotees that Lord Shiva here reduces or cures diabetes. For this, the devotees offer a prasad made of wheat raava and sugar as an offering to this Lord. Then a little of the prasadam is placed for the ants to eat. It is a deep belief of the devotees that if the ants accept the prasadam there, their disease will subside.
