Amaravati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the coalition government on the groundbreaking ceremony of the newly constructed Mega Integrated Steel Plant in Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh.

He lauded Chandrababu Naidu as a capable and visionary leader who plays a pivotal role in the development of Andhra Pradesh.

A new and monumental chapter has begun in the industrial progress of Andhra Pradesh. On Monday, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Mega Integrated Steel Plant to be established by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) India in Nakkapalli, Anakapalli district.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed this project—set to become the largest greenfield steel plant in the country—as a key milestone in the state’s development. He noted that this initiative would not only create employment opportunities for the youth but also position Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of industrial innovation.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and prominent figures from the steel industry, Lakshmi Mittal and Aditya Mittal.

This project is set to be undertaken in phases, with a total proposed investment of ₹1.35 lakh crore. In the first phase, a plant with an annual production capacity of 8.2 million tonnes will be constructed at a cost of ₹70,000 crore. The target is to commence production by the first quarter of 2029.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Chandrababu stated, “This project serves as yet another strong testament to Andhra Pradesh being a highly favorable destination for investments.

It reflects the confidence that the international business community places in our state.” It is estimated that this project will generate approximately one lakh jobs, both directly and indirectly.

ArcelorMittal Executive Chairman Lakshmi Mittal remarked, “This marks a new chapter in our partnership with India. In my 50 years of experience in the steel industry, the plant being built here stands out as a truly gratifying experience.”

During the same event, AMNS signed two key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The primary objective of these agreements is to equip the youth with the skills required for next-generation industries.
