Amaravati: The weather in Andhra Pradesh has undergone a sudden change. Influenced by a surface circulation and a trough, widespread rains are currently lashing several districts across the state. Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), stated that there is a possibility of scattered rainfall accompanied by lightning over the next three days. He advised the public and farmers to remain alert and take appropriate precautions.
Officials forecast that today, light to moderate rains accompanied by lightning are likely in the North Andhra districts of Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalli, as well as in the Coastal Andhra districts of Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, and Guntur. Furthermore, they noted that similar weather conditions are expected in the Rayalaseema districts of Kadapa, Annamayya, and Sri Sathya Sai, while the remaining districts may experience light showers.
Precautions for the Public and Farmers:
The Disaster Management Authority has issued a warning urging the public to exercise extreme caution, as there is a looming risk of lightning strikes. It was explicitly stated that one should not remain under trees, in open fields, or in other exposed areas while it is raining. People were advised to seek shelter in safe buildings during thunderstorms and lightning. Even while indoors, it was recommended to refrain from using electrical appliances such as televisions and refrigerators, and suggested that it would be prudent to disconnect them.

Officials also issued key guidelines to farmers to help prevent crop damage. Farmers who have left crops—such as paddy, maize, and chilies—out in the open to dry were advised to immediately cover them with tarpaulins to ensure their safety. Farmers and agricultural laborers working in the fields were warned to move to safe locations rather than taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
