Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu today, March 23, 2026, laid the foundation stone for ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) India’s massive greenfield integrated steel plant in Anakapalli district.

This event stands as a major industrial milestone, expected to transform the economic landscape of the region.

Project Overview
This plant is being established in Rajayyapeta, Nakkapalli Mandal, Anakapalli district, with an investment ranging from ₹1.35 lakh crore to ₹1.5 lakh crore. It will possess an annual production capacity of 17.8 million metric tonnes, thereby ranking as one of the largest integrated steel plants in India.

The development is planned to be executed in phases, with approximately ₹70,000 crore allocated for the first phase.

Economic Benefits
The investment of ₹1.36–1.5 lakh crore is expected to boost local infrastructure and ancillary industries, as well as enhance state revenues through taxes and development contributions.

The captive port, to be established across 316 acres at a cost of ₹11,198 crore, will generate an additional 6,000 jobs and significantly enhance logistics capabilities. Consequently, it will transform Anakapalli into a major industrial hub.

Overall, this initiative will bolster Andhra Pradesh’s manufacturing ecosystem as well as India’s steel production capacity.

Event Details
Mr. Naidu arrived by helicopter, visited the ‘Experience Zone’ at 3:40 PM, and reviewed the plant’s scale model. Subsequently, accompanied by Union Ministers, he unveiled the plaque marking the foundation stone laying ceremony.

The event was attended by prominent industrial figures—including Lakshmi Mittal and Aditya Mittal from ArcelorMittal—as well as representatives from Nippon Steel. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were also signed during the ceremony.

Economic Impact

The project is targeted for completion by March 2028. Key officials from ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) India participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony held today at the Anakapalli steel plant site.

Employment Opportunities
It is estimated that approximately 100,000 (1 lakh) jobs—both direct and indirect—will be created through the AM/NS steel plant located in Anakapalli.

According to some estimates, this includes approximately 61,000 direct jobs, with another 8,000 jobs expected to be generated within associated port operations. These employment opportunities will span across the fields of engineering, technical expertise, skilled labor, logistics, and allied sectors.
