The state government has decided to celebrate Bhakta Kanakadasa Jayanti as a state festival on the eighth of this month. The government has issued orders to this effect on Wednesday, said State BC, EWS Welfare, Handloom and Textile Minister S. Savita.
It was revealed that a state-level festival of Bhakta Kanakadasa Jayanti will be held in Kalyanadurgam, Anantapur district. State Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh will attend this festival.
Minister Savita revealed that the government has said that the orders should be held in all districts to celebrate Bhakta Kanakadasa Jayanti as a state festival. As a social philosopher and composer, Bhakta Kanakadasa, through his hymns and writings, has brought awareness among the people about the inequalities in society and the caste system. He said that the services rendered by Kanakadasa towards the eradication of social ills are commendable.
He said that it is a joy to celebrate the birth anniversary of such a great person as a state festival. Minister Savita recalled that last year, a state-level birth anniversary of Bhakta Kanakadasa was celebrated in Anantapur.
