Andhra Pradesh IT, & Education Minister Nara Lokesh has taken direct charge of rescue operations to bring back Telugu citizens stranded in Nepal amid ongoing unrest.  From the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) control room in the state secretariat, Lokesh is leading the efforts in coordination with AP Bhavan in Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs and civil aviation authorities.

Reports indicate that over 215 Andhra Pradesh residents are stranded in Nepal, in several places: 90 in Pingalsthan near the China border, 55 in Pashupati, 27 in Baffal, and 12 in Simikot. Emphasizing the need for accurate lists of names, hometowns and contact details to enable quick evacuation once the conditions improve, Lokesh ordered real-time updates every two hours.

The minister personally spoke to several stranded citizens.  Among them were Surya Prabha from Vizag, who shared how his belongings were destroyed in Pokhara. Murali from Vizianagaram, who reported that 81 people with him in Kathmandu were short of food and water. said that his team was safe in the dormitory but services were suspended due to the closure of the airport.

Lokesh assured everyone: “Please stay home, take care of your phone batteries and do not panic. The Andhra Pradesh government is with you. And we will bring you back home.”

He instructed officials to be prepared for every situation, including issuing temporary passports to those who have lost their documents, arranging flights to Visakhapatnam or Vijayawada after the Kathmandu airport reopens, or using border crossings through Lucknow and Varanasi if necessary.
