Visakhapatnam to be another Mumbai city in the next seven years
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed that 1 lakh acres of land should be identified on a war footing for various projects in the 8 districts under the Visakhapatnam Economic Region to increase economic activity .

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has instructed the officials to make the Visakhapatnam Economic Region a growth engine for Andhra Pradesh. By 2032, 120 billion dollars of wealth should be created from this region.
He directed that Visakhapatnam should be made like another Mumbai city in the next seven years. Projects should be set up in all 8 districts of Visakhapatnam Economic Region, including Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Anakapalle, Kakinada, East Godavari, ASR, Manyam.. to increase economic activity. He instructed the officials to identify one lakh acres for various projects in the 8 districts.
The Visakhapatnam region, which has an area of 36,000 square kilometers and a population of 15.5 million, is currently recording a GDP of $49 billion… He said that this region will be crucial in the progress of the state with the possibility of increasing jobs by 20 to 24 lakhs by 2032.
At the NITI Aayog meeting held at the Secretariat on Friday, the Chief Minister held a review with officials on the issue of developing ‘Visakhapatnam Economic Region’. The Chief Minister directed that the Visakhapatnam Economic Region be developed with 6 ports, 7 manufacturing nodes, 17 major agricultural fields, 6 service hubs, and 12 tourism hubs.
NITI Aayog officials gave a power point presentation on this. The officials explained to the Chief Minister the plans formulated as 7 growth drivers such as ports, IT, agriculture, tourism, healthcare, urbanization, and infrastructure creation. For this, he said, 41 projects of the highest priority have to be undertaken.
If the Visakhapatnam Economic Region plans can be implemented, then in the next 7 years, 7.5 lakh houses, 10,000 hotel rooms, up to 20 innovation centers, 10 colleges, 7,000 hospital beds, industries in an area of 20,000 hectares, an office complex in an area of 80 million square feet, and warehouses in an area of 60 million square feet will be provided, officials told the Chief Minister.
‘We will build beach roads between Mulpet-Visakhapatnam and Visakhapatnam-Kakinada. We will connect these with national highways. The seashore is a haven of wealth and we should ensure that it is utilized more.
Making it a steel hub with the country’s top 3 steel industries… It has also been decided to focus on petrochemicals, gas grid, port development, petrochemicals-medical tech, shipbuilding, defense, electronics, clean tech, and labor-intensive manufacturing.
If everyone produces their own electricity, there will be no power supply losses. If everyone switches to EV vehicles, transportation costs will also be completely reduced. Along with solar and wind power, we are giving priority to pumped energy, battery energy, and green hydrogen production. The state has ample resources for this. I also sought the cooperation of NITI Aayog to fulfill Andhra Pradesh’s ambition,’ said Chief Minister Chandrababu.
