Praising the greatness of the traditional Indian joint family system, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said such a system should be brought back.

Stating that the joint family system is one of our greatest strengths, he said that grandparents and other family members help in shaping children by providing values and emotional support.

The Chief Minister today administered polio drops to children at his camp office as part of the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme. Later, he interacted with the children and their parents and enquired about their health, vaccination status and upbringing.

He asked the parents to ensure that all the government-recommended vaccines are administered on time to protect the health of their children.

Health and Family Welfare Department officials briefed the Chief Minister that the state has set a target of administering polio drops to about 49.2 lakh children under the age of five as part of the three-day Pulse Polio campaign starting today.

Interacting with families, the Chief Minister asked about the challenges faced by parents, especially in families where both parents are working.

He stressed that childcare should not be considered solely the responsibility of the mother and called for fathers to also actively participate in child rearing. “The responsibility of raising children should be shared by fathers and other family members. Child rearing should never be left entirely to mothers,” he said.

The Chief Minister observed that societal attitudes towards having children are changing and stressed that children should not be seen as a burden but as a source of joy and strength.

Reiterating the state government’s commitment to encouraging large families, Chandrababu said that they are creating awareness among the people on the importance of having two or more children and promoting a family-friendly social environment.
