AMARAVATI: Telugu Desam Party state president, Palla Srinivasa Rao, on Friday lashed out at the Indian National Congress and its allies, accusing them of obstructing the transformative reforms aimed at promoting gender equality and preserving federal balance.
Srinivasa Rao described the opposition’s opposition to the Women’s Reservation and Reorganisation Amendment Bills as a “historic betrayal of women” and a “deliberate attempt to weaken the political voice of South India”.
Srinivasa Rao stressed that the 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and the proposed 50% increase in parliamentary seats should be seen as a single, comprehensive reform.
Srinivasa Rao described the proposal to increase Lok Sabha seats by 50% uniformly in all states as a necessary corrective measure. This will allow for the necessary expansion of women’s reservation while maintaining federal equality.
Reiterating the party’s past performance, Srinivasa Rao said that the Telugu Desam Party was the first political party in India to implement 33% reservation for women in local body elections under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu.

The Telugu Desam Party reiterated its strong support for the reform agenda led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It also made it clear that it would take the issue directly to the people, exposing what it described as an “anti-women, anti-Southern attitude”.
