Google will invest $6 billion in Visakhapatnam to build a 1 gigawatt data center, which is Rs 50,000 crore in our currency. Of this investment, $2 billion will be allocated for renewable energy capacity. This will provide the required electricity for the data center.
The media says that this data center will be the largest in Asia and will be part of the expansion of Google data centers in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
As part of this project to transform Andhra Pradesh into a tech hub, Nara Lokesh announced that the government is also trying to set up three cable landing stations in Visakhapatnam.
Visakhapatnam is becoming a destination for international giant tech companies. Despite such efforts in the past.. everything has turned upside down during the five years of YSRCP rule.
Google is planning to invest in Visakhapatnam on a large scale. Earlier, it had also signed MoUs with some software companies. However, clarity is only now emerging on which sector it will invest in.
