AMARAVATI: The whole world is now looking towards Rajahmundry… The ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat competitions will soon be held in Rajahmundry. Public representatives and organizers said that the International Dragon Boat League-2026 competitions, which will be held in the state of Andhra Pradesh for the first time in India, will be held in Rajahmundry as the center.
The logo of this event, which will be held on May 30, 31 and June 1 under the joint auspices of Think Outside and Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association, was unveiled by MP Daggubati Purandeshwari and SHAP Chairman Animini Ravi Naidu.
The sport of dragon boats has a history of almost 2000 years. After the drowning of the poet Qu Yuan in China, people used boats to search for him and beat drums. This sport symbolizes team spirit, coordination and concentration.
MP Daggubati Purandhveri said that Rajahmundry has been recognized as a cultural and spiritual center so far and is now going to become a sports hub. She said that this sport will keep the youth away from drugs and lead to a healthy lifestyle. He revealed that the multi-purpose stadium is being constructed in three phases.
Rajahmundry city TDP MLA adireddy Srinivas, said that the process of developing Rajahmundry as a tourist destination is progressing rapidly as part of the efforts to implement the promises made during the elections. He said that sports are being given high priority and necessary infrastructure is being provided. that this international dragon boat league festival is being organized as a prelude to the Godavari Pushkaram to be held in 2027.
MLC Somu Veerraju said… The central government is providing full support to the state in the field of sports. He said that Rs. 54 crores have been sanctioned for the multi-purpose stadium due to the efforts of MP Purandeshwari. He said that it is gratifying that Rajahmundry is moving forward in the sports and cultural sectors.

SHAP Chairman Animini Ravi Naidu said that they are moving forward with the aim of making Rajahmundry a water games hub. He said that it is a matter of pride that athletes from 25 countries are participating in this event and that an indoor stadium is being constructed with Rs. 53 crores. He said that the central and state governments are committed to the development of sports. Local coalition leaders, sports officials and others participated in the program.
