AMARAVATI: A massive explosion occurred at the Suryashri Fireworks factory in Vetlapalam village of Samarlakota mandal in Kakinada district this afternoon, killing several workers and injuring several others.
Relief efforts are underway.
It is estimated that up to 18 people may have died. The bodies of the workers were thrown away by the force of the explosion, and some were burnt alive. The entire blast area has become a terrifying environment.

A massive explosion occurred at a fireworks manufacturing factory in the Samarlakota mandal. The explosion occurred at 2 pm on Saturday at the Suryashri Fireworks factory located next to the Godavari Canal in the Vetlapalem area of ​ ​ the mandal.             

The massive fire spreads thick smoke throughout the area. Locals said that the sound of the explosion was heard for about 5 km.  The intensity of the noise caused cracks in the slab of a private school in a neighboring village. Fire department personnel, who received information, are trying to douse the fire with the help of 2 fire engines. 8 seriously injured people have been taken to the hospital in an ambulance.                      

Rescue operations are underway as the Kakinada District Superintendent has confirmed the high risk of loss of life.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reviewed the situation and ordered rescue operations. An investigation is underway into the cause and the legality of the unit.
