Andhra Pradesh to join the country’s gold production map .Deccan Gold Mines mine ready in Jonnagiri, Kurnool district Record as the first private company to extract gold in the country Production to start as soon as state government approvals are received Burden of gold imports likely to decrease
Andhra Pradesh will soon consolidate its position in the gold production map of India. Gold extraction will soon begin from the mine developed by Deccan Gold Mines Limited (DGML) in Jonnagiri in Kurnool district. If this project becomes a reality, Deccan Gold Mines will create history as the first private sector company to produce gold from mines in the country.
This key point was revealed by the company’s Managing Director Hanuma Prasad himself at the CII conference held in Delhi. He said that the environmental clearances for the Jonnagiri project were received from the Center in June-July this year. He clarified that some more clearances are yet to be received from the state government and once they are completed, production will begin immediately.
According to their estimates, DGML expects to produce 750 kg of gold annually from the Jonnagiri mine. He expressed confidence that this production can be increased to 1,000 kg in the next two to three years.
Currently, only 1.5 tons of gold is produced in the country annually. With this, we are importing about 1,000 tons of gold from abroad every year. This is costing a huge amount of foreign exchange. In this context, experts are analyzing that if production starts in Jonnagiri at full scale, the availability of gold domestically will increase and the burden of imports will be significantly reduced.
