“Midhilli Cyclone Gandam” is expected to develop into a severe depression in west-central Bay of Bengal of Andhra Pradesh coast.

The Meteorological Department today said that a severe depression will develop over West Central Bay of Bengal along the coast of Andhra Pradesh tomorrow (November 16). It has warned that it will move north-eastwards and become a cyclonic storm along the Odisha coast on November 17 into the north-west Bay of Bengal. According to the weather department, strong winds will blow along the coast due to this effect.

Cyclone in Midhili, low pressure in the Bay of Bengal and heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar islands adjoining South East Bay of Bengal. It said that on November 15, it is likely to become a severe low pressure over the West-Central Bay of Bengal and it is likely to move towards the West-Northwest.

Tamil Nadu is receiving heavy rains due to low pressure formed in South East Bay of Bengal. Life has already been disrupted due to heavy rains in Karaikkal, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Nagapatnam districts. Educational institutions are closed. A similar situation prevailed in Puducherry. IMD has issued orange alert for coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.

He warned that there will be heavy rains for the next three days in some other areas and advised fishermen not to go fishing.

On Tuesday morning, a low pressure formed in Southeast Bay of Bengal. Officials of the Meteorological Research Center have announced that this low pressure will move westwards towards northeast and become a cyclone on Thursday morning. He said that due to the possibility of this cyclone crossing the coast towards Odisha, there will be heavy rains in the northern districts of the state including Chennai. Scattered rains with thunder and lightning will occur in the coastal districts.
The weather department has already issued warnings that people should be alert for the coming next three days.
