Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu held a review with officials at the Secretariat on Tuesday on the preparation of the free travel scheme ‘Stree shakti’ in APSRTC buses, which the state government is ambitiously launching from August 15 for all women in the state.

In the review, the CM instructed the officials to take preventive measures to avoid any problems in the implementation of the free bus travel scheme. Since there is a possibility of heavy congestion, traffic management should be done efficiently, capacity should be increased accordingly, and safety is also important, he clarified.

He advised to behave politely with passengers… and ensure that no complaints are received anywhere. The CM directed to take feedback from passengers from time to time regarding the implementation of free bus travel for women and implement the scheme better accordingly. He wanted to ensure that services are provided through a service outsourcing agency.

GPS must be enabled for EPOS missions and information should be provided to passengers by tracking them. It should work in conjunction with RTGS.

The system should be ready to resolve any problems that arise immediately. Bus stations should be kept very clean. Garbage should be removed from time to time. Toilets should be cleaned once every 2 hours.

There should be regular supervision by officials on this. Passengers should not face any inconvenience anywhere. RO plants should be installed for drinking water at all bus stations. The repairs and painting work of bus stations undertaken at a cost of Rs. 30 crore should be completed by December this year. New fans and chairs should be installed where necessary. RTC staff should be available at the bus station 24 hours a day to assist passengers.

Officials told the Chief Minister that steps have been taken to ensure that buses do not break down anywhere as additional bus services have to be run to meet the rush. It was explained that women can travel across the state in Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, City Ordinary, Express and Metro Express buses.

They said that the software in the EPOS machines is being updated by August 14 for zero fare tickets for them. It was also revealed that the training of the staff in this regard has also been completed. The Chief Minister will launch the Stree Shakti scheme on the afternoon of the 15th of this month at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station in Vijayawada.

On the other hand, during the review, the Chief Minister also discussed with the officials the assistance provided to auto drivers in the state. The CM suggested that a comprehensive study be conducted to formulate a new scheme along with the schemes currently being provided by the Central Government to auto drivers.
