A key milestone in the industrial journey of Rayalaseema, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the construction work of the JSW Rayalaseema Integrated Steel Plant in Sunnapurallapalli and Peddadanur villages of YSR Kadapa district tomorrow.
With the commencement of this construction, a long-held aspiration will come true. This is yet another testament to the state government’s commitment to develop Rayalaseema as a major manufacturing and green industrial hub. This integrated steel plant will be developed by JSW Andhra Pradesh Steel Limited in two phases, spread over an area of 1,100 acres, with a total investment of Rs. 16,350 crore.
While the first phase requires an investment of Rs. 4,500 crore, an additional Rs. 16,350 crore will be invested in the second phase. 11,850 crores will be allocated. This will take the plant capacity to 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The target is to start commercial production by March 2028. The project was initially approved in 2019, with foundation stone laying ceremonies held in the same year and again in 2023.
However, despite repeated announcements and ceremonial events during the previous government, the project did not progress beyond the initial phase. After the formation of the current government in 2024, the project was revived through continuous consultations with JSW, resolution of long-pending issues, timely policy decisions and coordinated actions between various departments.
As a result, it finally entered the implementation phase with the commencement of full-scale construction. At the same time, the government provided the key external infrastructure required for the project.
Dedicated water supply infrastructure is being taken up, work is underway to connect it to NH-67, while efforts are also being made to take up a 12 km railway link connecting the plant to Muddanur Railway Station through RITES under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.
Designed as a modern green steel hub, the plant will adopt scrap-based Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology powered by renewable energy, thereby significantly reducing carbon emissions.
The project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, promote allied industries across Rayalaseema, and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s emergence as one of the leading steel producing states in India.

The commencement of construction work tomorrow will not only mark the beginning of a major industrial project, but will also usher in a new era of industrial strength, investment and prosperity for Rayalaseema.
