AMARAVATI:  Unlike the way the government acted in the past, Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has warned the irrigation officials to change their ways.

Speaking to the CEs across the state in a video conference on Friday, Minister Nimmala reviewed the preparation of estimates related to works such as dredging, horse shoeing, and soil removal in canals in the constituencies.

Although he had ordered that estimates be prepared and sent by March 25th for the respective works, he expressed his anger as some chief engineers have not submitted the estimates properly so far.

There is an opportunity to do works such as dredging, horse shoeing, and soil removal in canals only in the months of April and May. He said that if the Kharif season starts later, there will be no opportunity to do the work,

Unlike the previous practice, if estimates are prepared in advance and the Finance Department grants permission, there will be an opportunity to complete the work before the season begins.

He ordered the CEs to send the estimates related to the works by Sunday evening, according to the constituency. Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu sternly warned that the officials who did not send the estimates by the deadline will have to come to the Amaravati Secretariat on Monday and explain why they could not send the estimates.

After the coalition government came to power, he said that funds were released under emergency works and by carrying out works such as silt removal, weeding and horse shoe removal during the monsoon, they were able to irrigate the ayacut farmers.

He clarified that the farmers who were not irrigated till the last acre of their land were facing difficulties due to the neglect of even the minimum maintenance work during the last 5 years of YSRCP government rule, and that today the coalition government is working with the aim of irrigating every acre.

He instructed the officials to stop neglecting the officials and submit the estimates related to irrigation works within the deadline and complete them with quality before the season begins.
