AMARAVATI : The efforts to track the tiger that has been causing fear and anxiety among the people in and around Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district for the past 5 days, using drone cameras to monitor its movements, have yielded no results.
However, this morning, officials detected the tiger’s movements in the Kesavaram area of Mandapeta mandal near Rajahmundry, and the administration has set up surveillance in that area.

Forest officials suggested that additional police forces would be needed as soon as the tiger’s live location is identified. The DSP stated that police forces are already on standby in the Kesavaram panchayat area.

As the tiger’s movements are likely to be towards the  Mandapeta mandal in the Mandapeta constituency, people and farmers in those areas have been advised to be vigilant. Officials appealed to farmers to keep their cows and cattle at home and not send them out for grazing. They stated that the administration is fully prepared in view of the tiger’s movements.

This male tiger, which strayed from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, has entered Andhra Pradesh and has been roaming extensively in residential areas, fields, and the outskirts of villages like G. Yerrampalem in Rajanagaram mandal.

In the ongoing operation to capture the tiger, forest officials are continuing “Operation Tiger” with 12 teams, including police, Rapid Action Force, and experts from Pune, Delhi, and Visakhapatnam, comprising nearly 100 personnel.  Officials are focusing on areas such as cattle slaughterhouses and water sources, and to track and safely relocate the tiger, they are using drones, 25+ trap/thermal cameras, cages, and tranquilizers (with NTCA and PMO permissions).

After traveling approximately 600 km, this tiger has been roaming in various areas within a 10-20 km radius of Rajamahendravaram in Andhra Pradesh for several days, specifically in the Rajahmundry and Rajanagaram regions.  Officials stated that it has attacked and killed 5 cattle so far, and consumed one calf. The authorities are maintaining strict vigilance and are on high alert to capture this tiger.
