AMARAVATI – Keeping in mind the welfare of farmers, irrigation water is being released to the Godavari Delta ahead of the Kharif season. About 85 thousand acres will be irrigated through the Eastern Delta Canal and another 41 thousand acres through the Nidadavolu and Kovvur canals.
Amidst the weather experts warning that there is a possibility of rain shortage due to the effect of EliNino, farmers are advised to sow seeds in advance and protect their crops. State Culture Minister Kandula Durgash said this.Several coalition leaders and irrigation officials attended the Kharif season irrigation water release program at the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in Davileswaram on Sunday. Minister Durgash said that providing irrigation water to farmers in advance is proof of the government’s commitment towards farmers. Said Durgesh.
Currently, the coalition government has sanctioned Rs. 148 crore for the repair of barrage gates and has started the work. He said that another Rs. 13 crore has been released for the repair of canals and 80 percent of the work has been undertaken through irrigation societies. He said that the farmers’ harvested paddy is being purchased at the support price and cash is being directly deposited in their accounts within 24 hours.

Later, State Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh participated in the Kharif irrigation water release program organized in Vijjeswaram village and released water to the canals.
