AMARAVATI: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials and oil companies to address the domestic gas supply challenges arising due to global conflicts. He stressed the need to promote the use of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as an alternative route.

The Chief Minister, who reviewed the domestic gas supply with officials at the Secretariat today, directed the officials to educate the beneficiaries of the Deepam scheme about the benefits of switching to PNG.

He said that the beneficiaries who have opted for PNG will continue to receive the subsidy provided under the Deepam scheme and orders to this effect should be issued immediately. He also stressed the importance of clearly informing them that the beneficiaries can retain the benefits of their scheme even after switching to PNG connections.

The Chief Minister reviewed the steps being taken by oil companies to expand PNG connections and overcome the supply shortage. He set a target of providing one crore (10 lakh) PNG connections in the next six months. He directed the officials to ensure that there is no delay in achieving this target.

The officials informed the Chief Minister that the domestic gas situation would soon return to normal.

The Chief Minister, who reviewed the delay in the Srikakulam-Kakinada natural gas pipeline project, sought an explanation from the officials. When it was learnt that some decisions were pending at the central level, he directly spoke to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Stating that the tendering process has already been completed, he urged the Minister to complete the project at the earliest.

The Union Minister responded positively and assured that the matter would be reviewed soon and necessary steps would be taken to expedite the project.
