AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh is all set to take a crucial step forward in the information technology sector. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone of a data centre to be set up by global technology giant Google in Visakhapatnam on April 28, TDP state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao announced in a historic development.

Considered a mega project with an investment of around $15 billion (₹1.35 lakh crore), the centre is spread over 601 acres and is likely to be fully operational by July 2028. The initiative is expected to attract huge investments to the state and also provide significant employment opportunities.

Visakhapatnam, which has been known as the ‘City of Destiny’, is on its way to becoming a global hub for Artificial Intelligence, Srinivas said, adding that the city’s development as the country’s first 1-Gigawatt AI hub is crucial for the development of Uttar Andhra Pradesh.

This milestone is due to the visionary leadership and technology-driven vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who has made Andhra Pradesh an attractive destination for global technology giants, and the continuous efforts, administrative agility and strategic encouragement of Minister Nara Lokesh have played a key role, Srinivas said.

He said that this project will act as a catalyst to transform the entire Uttar Andhra region into a vibrant technology corridor, with a significant expansion in infrastructure, industrial activities and employment opportunities. He said it also has the potential to provide the youth with advanced skills and first-hand knowledge of cutting-edge technologies, thereby opening up avenues for world-class opportunities.

The transparent policies of the state government and investor-friendly environment have played a key role in attracting world-class investments. He said that the region, centered at Visakhapatnam, is poised to develop rapidly, supported by rapid expansion of essential infrastructure like roads, power and water supply.

He stressed that despite some forces trying to block such investments, the government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is steadfast in taking forward its development agenda.

Srinivasa Rao said that this will mark an important milestone in the growth trajectory of Andhra Pradesh and a historic milestone that will strengthen the long-term development vision of the state.
