The YSR Congress Party’s representation in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament, is set to decrease significantly. Three of its members are retiring in June 2026 . The terms of four members representing Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha will end ,. Elections to fill these vacancies are likely to be held in April.2026.

Based on the current strength of the parties in the Assembly, it is certain that all four seats will go to the ruling Telugu Desam-Jana Sena-BJP alliance. This will reduce the YSRCP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha to just four seats. Once a strong force with 11 seats, the YSRCP is now becoming a nominal force due to successive resignations and the completion of members’ terms.

There is intense discussion in Amaravati regarding who will get these four seats. According to the alliance agreement, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is likely to secure at least two or three of the four seats.

There is a chance that the remaining seat will be allocated to the Jana Sena. However, given the equations at the central level, the Bharatiya Janata Party may also expect one seat. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan will discuss the matter with their top leaders and make a final decision. Senior leaders from the TDP, including those who sacrificed their tickets in the last elections, have set their sights on this position.

In particular, the names of senior leaders who have been working for the party for a long time, and those who are crucial in social equations, are under consideration. From Janasena, a key leader of the party or a person suggested by party chief Pawan Kalyan might get the opportunity. Since all four seats have gone to the alliance, it will not only further strengthen the NDA’s position in the central government but also provide an opportunity to raise their voice in Parliament for the state’s interests.

The resignations of leaders like Mopidevi Venkataramana and R. Krishnaiah, who was elected on the YSRCP ticket, has already dealt a major blow to the party. Now, with the end of their terms, the number of seats is naturally decreasing. With only 11 MLAs in the Assembly, the YSRCP is not in a position to win even a single seat. It is reported that this will significantly reduce the party’s influence in national politics.
