Krishna District SP V. Vidyasagar Naidu, IPS, unfolded that Gannavaram police apprehended an accused involved in ganja smuggling and seized 112 kg of ganja worth approximately Rs. 5,60,000 from him.
The SP unfastened the details of the case at a press conference held today.
According to the details he provided, yesterday evening, while the Gannavaram SI and his staff were conducting vehicle checks at the BB Gudem underpass within the Gannavaram police station limits, a person in a white CRETA car with registration number OD-O2-BC 3555 acted suspiciously upon noticing the police. The police stopped the vehicle and conducted a search. He said that his staff found 112 one-kilogram packets of ganja worth approximately Rs. 5,60,000 in the car. They immediately took the person in the car, identified as Deepak Thupe, into custody and interrogated him.
Upon questioning Deepak, he revealed that a person named Vaishnavi Lavan from Pune had contacted someone in Balangir, Odisha, for the ganja, the SP said. The SP stated that the accused confessed to purchasing the cannabis from two individuals named Raj Kumar and Suran Karna at that location and transporting it to Pune. Following his confession, he was taken into custody, and a case was registered against him at the Gannavaram Police Station under Crime Number: 290/2025, sections 8(b) r/w 20(b)(2)(c) of the NDPS Act.
The District SP specially commended the staff for their skillful handling of the situation in seizing the cannabis and apprehending the accused, and presented them with rewards.
