In the wake of the increasing number of COVID cases in some states, Special Principal Secretary of the Medical and Health Department, Shri M.T. Krishna Babu, today directed the concerned officials to increase the capacity of COVID testing in the state.

Officials said that currently, COVID cases are being registered in the state at a low level and those coming to government public hospitals with symptoms like fever are being tested as per the rules.

Shri Krishna Babu spoke about the availability of VTM (Viral Transmission Media) kits, RNA Extraction kits and RTPCR kits required for conducting COVID tests.

He reviewed the spread of COVID in the state at the AP Secretariat in Velagapudi on Monday.

Shri Krishna Babu ordered that appropriate steps be taken to increase the number of COVID tests to 1,000 people per day, depending on the situation. He suggested that steps be taken to arrange the necessary kits to conduct 100 tests per day in the old GGHs and 50 tests per day in the new GGHs. He directed that kits required for a month should be prepared for this purpose.

Shri Krishna Babu suggested that steps should be taken to ensure that VRD testing laboratories and oxygen plants in various GGHs are available as per the requirement. In this meeting, the availability of various types of testing kits, PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), medicines, ventilators and N95 masks were reviewed.

He suggested that the currently available PPE kits of more than 2 lakhs and VTM kits of more than 60 thousand should be provided to various GGHs as per the requirement.

He directed that the spread of Covid in various states and the pattern of daily testing should be closely monitored and the variation in Covid cases reported in the state in the last ten days should be analyzed. He said that the relevant departments and officials should work in coordination and be ready to deal with any situation effectively.

At present, the GGHs should be ready to conduct Covid tests as per the requirements and this arrangement will have to be made in other government hospitals depending on the situation, said Sri Krishna Babu.
