He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful completion of the first national conference of parliamentary and legislative committees on women’s empowerment that was held for two days.
He suggested that more priority be given to women in politics. Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Aiyana Patrudu said that when he was first elected as a legislator in 1983, there were no women legislators and no women panchayat presidents in the state.
Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao said that women were given priority in local body elections and the same should be done in all states. He asked that the resolution to provide equal rights to women in all states be passed and implemented.
Ayyanna Patrudu said that there are currently 22 women legislators in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and there are also women members in the Legislative Council.
The power of women is the power of social progress. If that power is used in the right direction, the country will become stronger. The ideas and resolutions taken in this conference should not only be documents but should bring changes in the lives of the people, he called.
He said that it is a matter of pride that this historic conference was successfully organized in Tirupati and hoped that such conferences should be held every year from now on. Ayyanna Patrudu said that we are determined to organize such a conference in Amaravati with all the features after three years
