The ambitious double-decker metro rail project being undertaken in Andhra Pradesh in the future will soon get the green signal in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, which will solve the traffic woes in both cities.

The responsibility of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the ambitious metro rail projects to be undertaken in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada cities of Andhra Pradesh state has been entrusted to the Secunderabad-based Barsil company.
The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department issued an order announcing this decision on Monday. The State Metro Rail Corporation recommended Barsil, which quoted a lower price than other companies in the tender process.
If this becomes available, traffic problems in both cities will be solved. Double Decker Metro Project Double-decker metro rail lines have been proposed in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada cities. In Visakhapatnam, double-decker metro lines will be constructed from Madhurawada to Tatichetlapalem and from Gajuwaka to the steel plant for a total of 19 km.
A double-decker metro line of 4.70 km has been proposed from Ramavarappadu Ring to Nidamanur in Vijayawada.The state government has already approved the DPRs of these metro projects. In the first phase in Visakhapatnam, three corridors of 46.23 km in length will be built.
The cost of this has been estimated at Rs. 11,498 crore. In the second phase, another corridor of 30.67 km in length will be built. Its cost is Rs. 5,734 crore. Corridors from Gannavaram to Pandit Nehru Bus Stand and Amaravati have been proposed for the metro project in Vijayawada.
