The sighting of a tiger near Rajahmundry in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh has caused panic in villages like Torredu. The District Collector has declared a holiday for schools in the area as a precautionary measure, and warnings have been issued.

Currently, villagers in Rajamahendravaram Rural, Sitanagaram, Korukonda, and surrounding mandals are on high alert after the tiger reportedly killed at least one cow and two calves, dragging the carcasses into the fields.

The tiger was sighted on January 31st in a maize field near Torredu High School and also near a banana plantation. It is believed that the tiger may have migrated from the Tadoba Reserve in Maharashtra, using the Papikonda National Park as a corridor, through the Kannapuram forests in Telangana and via Eluru.

Forest officials, including DFO Prabhakar Rao and Forest Range Officer David Raju, along with their team and police and revenue officials, are conducting a thorough investigation.

Having identified the tiger’s likely path, officials have placed strict surveillance along that route and have set up a cage to capture it if necessary.  They are coordinating with the police and revenue departments to restrict access to agricultural lands, install lights near cattle sheds, and advise people against traveling alone or entering fields during dawn/dusk.

Forest, police, and revenue officials are making strenuous efforts to trap the tiger and release it back into the forests. Forest officials stated that the tiger will be captured soon and returned to the forest.
