Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has requested the Centre to sanction funds under the Purvodaya scheme for the economic development of backward areas in Andhra Pradesh.
The CM, who met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during his visit to Delhi, submitted a memorandum to her on this issue. The CM appealed to focus on AP in the context of the Purvodaya scheme being launched for the comprehensive development of the states in the eastern part of the country.
Andhra Pradesh has been selected along with Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha as part of the Purvodaya scheme. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu explained to the Union Finance Minister that plans have been made to develop various areas of the state with Purvodaya funds.
The CM stated in his manifesto that plans have been made to promote horticulture in Rayalaseema, coffee crop products, cashew and coconut plantations in Uttarandhra, and aqua culture in coastal Andhra.
The Chief Minister explained that if the Centre allocates funds under the Purvodaya scheme for projects undertaken in these sectors, good results will be achieved. He said that the implementation of the Purvodaya scheme will contribute greatly to the economic development of the backward areas of Uttarandhra and Rayalaseema.
CM Chandrababu requested Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to allocate more funds to contribute to the economic development of the backward areas. Later, Chief Minister Chandrababu met Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil. The CM briefed the Union Minister about the progress of Polavaram works.
