In the wake of the impending cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ in the state, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu held a teleconference with the Collectors, SPs and other top officials of all districts on Saturday. The CM advised the officials to be vigilant as the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert that the cyclone ‘Montha’ will have a severe impact on the state on 26, 27, 28 and 29 of this month.
It was clarified that precautionary measures should be taken as ‘Montha’ will mainly turn into a severe cyclonic storm near Kakinada on the evening of 28th of this month and the winds are likely to blow at a speed of 90 to 110 kmph at that time. 80 to 100 mm He said that there is a possibility of heavy rains and that comprehensive preparations should be taken from now to avoid any loss of property or life from floods. He said that each district collector should prepare a special plan for cyclone protection measures and be prepared with adequate resources.
He suggested that the coastal people should be made aware of the cyclone and shifted to safe areas. He said that a holiday should be declared for educational institutions if necessary. He said that water levels in all major and medium-sized reservoirs should be monitored and water release should be done scientifically. He said that the information received in real time should be taken to the lower levels of the government machinery immediately. He ordered that NDRF and SDRF teams should be prepared in advance.

He suggested that hospital on-wheels services be started in Kakinada. All the R&B, electricity, irrigation, municipal and panchayat raj departments should be on alert. He directed that emergency services like drinking water, power supply, mobile towers and civil supplies should be ensured to continue continuously. In-charge officers have been appointed for the cyclone-affected districts and steps have been taken to prevent cyclone damage.
