This British-built Dhavaleswaram Cotton Barrage (Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage) is located on the lower reaches of the Godavari river near Rajahmundry in East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. It was built by British engineer Sir Arthur Cotton in 1847 and was completed by 1852.
This turned both Godavari districts into Annapurna districts. Modernizations: As the old dam was weak, modernization began in 1966 under the Chief Minister of Kasu Bahumananda Reddy, and it has been recognized as the largest spillway barrage with 175 gates.
