The Meteorological Department has warned that the depression formed in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclone. It is likely to hit the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28 in the form of a severe cyclone named “Montha”. In this context, the state government has been alerted to a war footing.

Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand has appointed senior officers as special officers for all coastal districts. He has directed them to immediately reach their respective districts and set up cyclone control rooms and take action in coordination with the collectors.

R.P. Sisodia has been appointed as the zonal in-charge of the eastern coastal areas. He will supervise the relief operations from West Godavari district to Chittoor. Ajay Jain has been given the responsibility of monitoring Konaseema districts from Srikakulam district. These areas are likely to be more affected by the cyclone.

The government has also appointed special officers for other districts. K.V.N. Chakradharababu (Srikakulam), Pattanasetti Ravi Subash (Vijayanagaram), Narayana Bharat Gupta (Manyam), Vadarevu Vinay Chand (ASR), K. Kanna Babu (East Godavari), V.R. Krishna Teja (Kakinada), Vijayaramaraju (Konaseema), V. Prasanna Venkatesh (West Godavari), Kantilal Dande (Eluru), Amrapali Kata (Krishna), Shashibhushan Kumar (NTR), M. Venu Gopal Reddy (Bapatla), Kona Sashidhar (Prakash), Dr. N. Yuvraj (Nellore), P. Arun Babu (Tirupati), P.S. Girisha (Chittoor) have been appointed as special officers for the districts.

They will coordinate relief, rescue and relief operations during the cyclone. They will ensure that assistance reaches every affected family. These officers will continue their duties after the cyclone, till the assessment of losses, distribution of compensation and restoration of normal life.

They have been advised to work in coordination between all departments (Revenue, Panchayat Raj, Energy, Roads & Buildings, Water Resources, Health). Under the leadership of experienced officers Sisodia and Ajay Jain, the government has made strong arrangements to reduce the impact of the cyclone “Montha”. The government has appealed to the people to be alert and not believe in rumors.
