Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu affirmed that a true tribute would be paid to the martyr Potti Sreeramulu only when the state is developed across all sectors.

He urged everyone to constantly keep the Potti Sreeramulu’s spirit in mind and work towards the development of the state. In alignment with this vision, a massive 58-foot bronze statue of Potti Sreeramulu has been erected in Amaravati; the Chief Minister opined that “Statue of Sacrifice” is a fitting name for this monument, serving as a symbol of the martyr’s supreme sacrifice.

Potti Sriramulu was a key freedom fighter whose sacrifice led to Andhra State’s formation. Today, AP CM N. Chandrababu Naidu unveiled his 58-ft statue in Amaravati.Andhra Pradesh.

Early LifePotti Sriramulu, born March 16, 1901, in the Madras Presidency (now Nellore area), joined Gandhi’s movements early. He participated in the Salt Satyagraha (1930) and Quit India Movement (1942), earning imprisonment for anti-British efforts.

Key Contributions He advocated Dalit temple entry via hunger strikes and focused on Telugu linguistic rights. In 1952, his 56-58 day fast in Madras demanded a separate Telugu state from Madras Presidency.

Sacrifice and Legacy Sriramulu died on December 15, 1952, sparking riots that forced PM Nehru to announce Andhra State on December 19, 1952 (formed October 1, 1953). This paved the way for India’s linguistic state reorganization in 1956.

Today’s Inauguration On his 125th birth anniversary (March 16, 2026), CM Naidu unveiled the 58-ft bronze statue at Shakhamuru Park, Amaravati, costing Rs 150 crore for phase one (6.8 acres). The statue honors his fight for Telugu people; phase two adds a museum and auditorium.
