Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the comprehensive development of the state is possible only when the tribal communities are developed in all aspects. Recalling that NTR had started development in tribal areas, he said that he is continuing those efforts.
The Chief Minister participated in the World Tribal Day celebrations held at Vanjangi in Paderu mandal of ASR district on Saturday. He offered prayers at the forest goddess Modakondamma temple, inspected the nearby coffee plantations, watched traditional tribal festivals and visited stalls displaying tribal products. He also reviewed tourism development projects with officials.
Rakhi Purnima, which celebrates International Tribal Day and the bond between brothers and sisters. On such an auspicious day, it makes me happy to be among the tribal people of Paderu. My aim is to work tirelessly to improve the living standards of the poor.
The NDA government is taking special steps for both tribal welfare and development of these areas. There are 28.32 lakh STs in Andhra Pradesh, of which about 8.41 lakh families are tribal. Every month, 3,77,051 tribals are getting NTR Bharosa pensions.
Our tribal children are like gems hidden in the ground; when given opportunities, they do wonders. Through the Talliki Vandanam scheme, we have transferred ₹642 crore directly to the accounts of mothers for the education of 4,86,803 tribal students from class 1 to 12. We are spending ₹1,337 crore annually for the education of 1,76,796 tribal students studying in schools and colleges in agency areas.
Araku Coffee should be recognized globally. I have promoted Araku Coffee as a brand and have also set up a stall in Paris. In 11 mandals of Paderu Agency, coffee is cultivated on over 2.58 lakh acres, which supports the livelihood of 2.46 lakh people. We are working to expand coffee plantations to another 1 lakh acres. In addition, cherries are cultivated on 1.80 lakh acres, producing 90,000 metric tonnes annually.
Tribal farmers also grow mango, sapota, cashew, jackfruit, jamun, lemon, custard apple and saffron. Once, the agency was infamous for cannabis cultivation, but under the NDA government, cannabis is no longer a problem, not only in agency areas, but anywhere in the state,” the Chief Minister said.
Under the National Highways Authority, in just one year, we have laid 269 km of BT roads connecting 203 tribal villages at a cost of ₹200 crore. Currently, work worth ₹8,570 crore is being done on 515 km of national highways passing through tribal districts,
Araku, Lambasinghi and Maredumilli will be developed as tourism clusters. In the coming days, financial assistance will be provided for setting up 1,000 homestays. We are sanctioning ₹2 crore for the development of Modakondamma temple in Paderu. Under women and child welfare programmes, 96 Anganwadi centres will be set up locally. In Visakhapatnam district, under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana “54,000 houses will be sanctioned for tribals,” the Chief Minister said.
