Srikakulam District SP K.V. Maheshwara Reddy, IPS, urged the public to celebrate the upcoming Sankranthi festival peacefully and joyfully. However, he warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone who uses the festival as an excuse to engage in illegal activities such as card games, cockfighting, gambling, and betting. He issued a press statement to this effect today.
He revealed that the police department has taken special measures to completely control illegal activities such as card games and cockfighting throughout the district during the Sankranthi festival. SP Maheshwara Reddy clarified that cases will be registered not only against those who participate in such illegal activities but also against the organizers and those who assist them.
He stated that special surveillance has already been set up on illegal activities such as gambling, cockfighting, and betting. He warned that strict action will be taken against those caught, according to the law. He also mentioned that cases will be registered against those who manufacture, sell, or transport cockfighting knives. The District SP made it clear that legal action is inevitable against those who organize and participate in cockfighting under any circumstances.
