A gas leak occurred during workover operations at the ONGC Mori-5 well in Irusumanda village, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh.

Since the location is in a remote area with no residential area within 500-600 meters, there were no injuries or loss of life. ONGC deployed its Crisis Management Teams (CMT and RCMT) and initiated cooling operations to protect and control the flames.

The incident occurred at the Mori field in the Krishna-Godavari basin,. As a precautionary measure, nearby villagers were evacuated amidst the gas plume.

Fire services and district officials are on the ground coordinating with  ONGC Flame Protection Measures: ONGC has cordoned off the area and initiated cooling operations using water to suppress the flames and prevent their spread.

Preparatory work for well control, including potential capping with equipment mobilized from Narsapuram, is underway.  Standard gas fire control involves ONGC deploying experienced crisis teams in blowouts, applying methods such as pumping high-pressure water, foam suppression, and debris removal.
