The Transport Department officials conducted extensive checks on All India Tourist Permit private buses plying from Rajamahendravaram to major cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
On the orders of Transport Officer (DTO) R. Suresh, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors jointly conducted a special drive for the last two days (April 08, 09) and seized a total of 5 sleeper coach buses.
It was found that these buses were violating various rules, besides the safety of the passengers. He said that serious defects such as illegal installation of additional diesel tanks at the bottom of the buses, closing the emergency exit (escape hatch, door) to be used in emergencies with luggage, and the absence of a rear emergency door as required by the rules have been revealed.
On Thursday, the District Transport Officer himself inspected a bus and found an additional diesel tank in it too. He said that not only is it a violation of the permit rules, but such actions that endanger the lives of passengers are extremely dangerous.

The 5 seized buses are currently stored at the Rajahmundry RTA office. In this regard, the bus owners will have to pay approximately Rs. 2,15,000/- in tax and penalty fee. District Transport Officer R. Suresh warned that strict action will be taken against private travel owners who violate the rules and inspections will continue continuously.
