The government has brought a toll-free number to provide immediate help to people in emergency situations across the country. A single toll-free number – 112 has been made available for emergency services.
Till now, people used to use different numbers for different services like police assistance (100), ambulance (108), women’s safety (181).. protection of child rights (1098), natural disasters (1077).
However, now only one number – 112 will continue to replace these. With this change, arrangements have been made to respond to all emergency services quickly.. effectively.
From now on, 112 numbers are being implemented in active mode in all the states. When you call 112 number, the call center tracks the location based on GPS and sends information to the relevant police station, ambulance or fire services.
The system has been upgraded with the necessary infrastructure and technology tools to significantly reduce the response time in emergencies. Specially trained personnel have been appointed on duty 24/7 to respond to calls.
It was clarified that if you press the panic button on Android or iOS smartphones, 112 will be called immediately. Also, if you download and register the 112 India App… police, ambulance and fire services will be available with a single touch.

Safety features like SOS features and fake call systems are also available specifically for women. On the other hand, awareness programs are being organized in schools, colleges and community halls.
Promotional programs are being carried out on social media, newspapers and TV channels. It was clarified that information is being provided through mobile awareness vehicles in rural areas.
