AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh has ranked sixth in India in organ donation, said State Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav. The National Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organization (the apex body of the Union Government’s Health and Family Welfare Department) has announced the state-wise organ donation list-2025, the minister said in a statement today.
He said that Jeevan Daan, which was formed in 2015 after the bifurcation of the state, will organize wide awareness programs across the state and create awareness among the people.
In the wake of the recent High Court’s orders regarding organ transplant surgeries in government hospitals, Minister Sri Satya Kumar held a review with the officials of Vaidya Arogya and Jeevan Daan Trust. The number of hospitals where organ transplant surgeries are being performed has increased from three to nine.
The officials informed the minister that the list includes Vizag KGH, VIMS, Guntur GGH, Kurnool GGH, Tirupati SWIMS, Mangalagiri AIIMS, Padmavati Children’s Heart Center-Tirupati, Kidney Research Center and Super Specialty Hospital Palasa, and GGH Vijayawada.
Similarly, the necessary permissions have been given to remove organs from brain dead cases in Kakinada, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Ongole, Anantapur, YSR Kadapa, and Tirupati hospitals and transfer them to other hospitals, Jeevana Trust Coordinator Rambabu explained to the minister. Speaking on the occasion, the minister instructed the officials to ensure that organ transplant surgeries in government hospitals increase and progress is made.
Officials explained that so far, eight kidneys and one liver have been transplanted from brain-dead people through KGH, VIMS, Guntur Government Hospital and Kurnool Government Hospital, while 87 kidney transplant surgeries have been performed from blood relatives. Recently, a heart transplant was successfully completed by receiving a heart from a brain-dead person in a private hospital on the outskirts of Vijayawada.
Across the state, 64 organs were received from 18 brain-dead people in the first two months of this year, bringing light to the lives of 64 people. This is evidence that organ donation cases are increasing significantly compared to the past two years.
He said that while 31 organ transplants were done from 12 brain-dead people in the first two months of last year, 30 organ transplants were done from 10 brain-dead people in 2024. The Minister advised the Jeevan Daan coordinators and voluntary service organizations to organize more awareness programs this year and work to provide reassurance to the victims who are waiting for organs by receiving organs from brain-dead people.
He said that the State Jeevan Daan has given new lives to 1200 victims in the state who were waiting for organs to last a lifetime. He said that by receiving organs from brain-dead people and standing by the victims, it has filled new light in their lives. He said that the State Jeevan Daan has created a new history by giving new lives to 301 victims in the last year.
He said that the State Jeevan Daan Trust has come to know that most of the people in the state are between the ages of 20-50 years and are suffering from organ failure. So far, 5347 people have registered for various organs in the trust. It is noteworthy that most of them are young people.
Minister Sri Satyakumar said that among those who have registered, 38 are children between the ages of 0-09.

Government is conducting cremation reforms with government honours to the organ donor through GO 95, which was issued to provide dignity to the brain dead. Minister Satyakumar said that financial assistance of Rs 10,000 will be provided to the organ donor. He said that the government is considering increasing the financial assistance to Rs 1 lakh.
