Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to the Central government to provide support for the establishment of a badminton training center in Amaravati Lab with international standards in Andhra Pradesh.
The CM, who is on a second-day visit to Delhi, met Union Minister for Youth Services and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya. The CM discussed with the Union Minister the projects to be undertaken for the development of sports in the state and the creation of infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said that there is a possibility of setting up a national water sports training hub in Amaravati. The CM explained in the meeting that there are wide opportunities to set up water sports training centers on the banks of the Krishna River.
The CM told the Union Minister that the state government has already sent various proposals to the ministry on various infrastructure and development projects related to sports.
It was revealed that it has been proposed to set up National Centers of Excellence in Nagarjuna University and Kakinada. It was stated that infrastructure projects under Khelo India should be completed in Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Narasaraopet.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu requested that Rs. 27 crore be sanctioned for the development of Vijayawada Indira Gandhi Stadium, Rs. 170 crore for the establishment of a multi-sports complex at Guntur BR Stadium, and Rs. 341 crore be sanctioned for the development of sports in various parts of the state.
He said that additional Khelo India centers should be sanctioned to identify talented sportsmen in the districts. The Chief Minister requested that the establishment of a Sports Authority of India training center in Tirupati in Rayalaseema be considered. The CM revealed that steps have been taken to develop the sports ecosystem in AP as part of the 2024-29 Sports Policy.
The Chief Minister thanked Union Minister Mandaviya for giving him the opportunity to host the Khelo India Martial Arts Games 2025 in AP.
The CM clarified that these will be held at the best sports venues in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and other cities. He requested the Union Minister to release Rs.25 crore for the organization of the Khelo India Martial Arts Games.
