The Andhra Pradesh government has announced that the owners of Chittoor Totapuri mango pulp industries should buy it at Rs 8 per kg and the state government will give a subsidy of Rs 4 per kg, but none of the pulp factory owners have bought it at Rs 8 per kg and have formed a syndicate and have looted 75 thousand Totapuri mango farmers.
The state government should immediately take action against the syndicate and make every mango farmer pay Rs 8 per kg of mango purchased from the pulp factory owners, Jana Chaitanya Vedika State President Vallamreddy Lakshman Reddy demanded.
Speaking at a media conference at Jana Chaitanya Vedika in Guntur on the 16th of this month, he urged the state government to immediately transfer the subsidy of Rs 4 per kilo announced by the state government to the accounts of the farmers concerned.
He urged the state government to form a mango market committee to prevent liquor brokers. He urged businessmen from other states to be invited to increase competition among businessmen. He urged the state government to take the initiative to invite businessmen from other states to prevent local political leaders from setting up pulp factories and turning into a syndicate beyond politics and exploiting farmers.
He said that it is unfortunate that 4.10 lakh tonnes of Totapuri mangoes are produced, but 4.10 lakh tonnes of mangoes are sold at a price of less than Rs 4 per kilo.
He said that if mangoes were purchased from the first week of May and the government had decided to buy them at the price of Rs 8, no farmer would have suffered a loss. He urged the state government to take appropriate measures to prevent such unfortunate situations from arising in the future. He said that the coalition government has wasted hundreds of crores of public money and the time of officials and employees by organizing various events during the year.
He said that even if 10 percent of the expenditure on events was allocated, mango farmers would have been out of trouble. He asked that when the prices of crops like mango, tobacco and chillies fall in the market, the government should purchase those crops at fair prices and increase demand in the market and support the farmers.
