Andhra Pradesh State Municipal and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana said that the authorities should give priority to the development of infrastructure within the Rajahmundry Urban Development Authority (RUDA) limits. A review was held at the municipal corporation office yesterday on the RUDA Master Plan and Godavari Pushkaram along with District Collector P. Prashanthi.
On this occasion, the officials explained the proposed issues of RUDA in a PowerPoint presentation. While the master plan was to be prepared with an area of 3,156 square kilometers, the officials brought to the attention of the minister that the draft master plan is ready with an area of 1,005 square kilometers.
He suggested that the objections to the master plan should be identified and the panchayats and municipalities within the RUDA limits should focus mainly on minimum infrastructure facilities such as roads, drainage, drinking water and street lights. He clarified that the income generated from any panchayat or municipality should be spent strictly on the development of those panchayats and municipalities.
He said that government and private lands within the RUD area should be identified and a land bank should be prepared. Thus, local bodies can generate income by developing those lands under the PPP model.
Minister Narayana suggested that comprehensive plans should be prepared keeping in mind the backdrop of the upcoming Godavari Pushkara. Development of wide-area roads, establishment of special routes, provision of modern facilities at the ghats, sanitation and security measures should be taken for Pushkara pilgrims.
He also revealed that private partnerships are being invited for hotel management, restaurants and related services under the PPP model. He clarified that the officials should take comprehensive steps with an optimistic outlook.

He said that as per the instructions of the Minister, the development of basic infrastructure within the RUD area will be taken as a priority. He said that the funds generated through the Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) and Building Penalty Scheme (BPS) will be used for works like roads and sewerage. She said.
