The Karthika Ekadashi festival of Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, known as Chinna Tirupati in Srikakulam district, was also celebrated on Saturday, and a large number of devotees came to it. However, the temple authorities failed miserably in making security arrangements for the devotees. About 9 devotees died in a huge stampede at the temple. It is very sad that such a tragedy has happened on the holy day of Hindus.

President of India Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and IT Minister Nara Lokesh have expressed deep condolences over this tragic incident.

The central government has announced compensation for the victims. Nara Lokesh left for Palasa to meet the families of the victims. The details of the accident are as follows.

It is customary for a large number of devotees to visit temples on the most auspicious day of Kartika Ekadashi to have darshan of the Lord. However, adequate security arrangements have to be made for the devotees. Similarly, devotees have to exercise restraint during rush hours.

The entrance to the temple is weak and has a small steel railing. Everyone has to enter the temple through the same gate. Hundreds of people rushed through this gate, which could only allow one person to enter at a time, resulting in a huge stampede.

This temple, which is very beautiful and filled with paintings and sculptures from the Ramayana and Bhagavata epics, has gained great popularity even though it was built in a short time. The crowd of devotees is controlled every Saturday. However, it is believed that the accident may have occurred due to the collapse of the steel railing installed for the protection circle due to the crowd on the day of Karthika Ekadashi. The temple premises, which had been peaceful till Friday, were filled with the cries of devotees on Saturday.
