AMARAVATI: In Andhra Pradesh, at the destination sand reach in Kateru village, Rajamahendravaram, officials from the District Mines and Geology Department, Rajamahendravaram, along with field staff from the Mines Department, Irrigation Department officials, and local revenue officials, conducted joint inspections on Saturday.  ​​During these inspections, the officials seized illegally stockpiled sand mounds and three dredging boats.

During today’s inspections, officials found three dredging boats and two sand mounds near the banks of the Kateru  sand reach.  Upon finding traces of sand in the dredging boats, the officials confirmed that they were involved in illegal sand mining in the Godavari River.

The three dredging boats, confirmed to have been involved in illegal sand mining through dredging in violation of the rules, were seized and handed over to the concerned Irrigation Department officials for registering a case against them. 

Similarly, the sand mounds near the dredging boats were measured, and it was determined that they were approximately 642 tons in volume. The said sand mounds were seized and handed over to the custody of local revenue officials for safekeeping until further action is taken.

The officials warned the concerned agency operators that strict action would be taken if they engage in illegal sand mining activities through dredging in the Kateru sand reach in the future. They clarified that sand mining activities must be conducted only according to government regulations.
